6 Things Home Care Owners Can Be Thankful For This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner!

Whether you’re going to a large family gathering or the office needs some support over the holiday weekend, we’ve got you covered with things to be thankful for this year.

2024 was full of regulatory changes, industry innovation, and so much more. Here’s a round-up of what you can celebrate this year.

A steady caregiver pipeline

From this year’s HCP Benchmarking Study, we saw the caregiver turnover rate peak.

It’s easy to get bogged down by these figures, but for the caregivers who continue to show up to work day over day, year over year, it’s a testament to their resilience and passion for caring.

Be sure to send a message of gratitude and thanks to your staff this year before taking some time off for the holiday.

Operational efficiencies

Does anyone remember the days of paper scheduling? 🤚

In 2024, it’s necessary to use digital forms and applications for most processes. Although some of this innovation was forced for compliance reasons, it has moved us in the right direction.

From HIPAA to caregiver and client privacy, and simply for the ease of sending messages to and from caregivers, electronic communication and processes make life so much easier.

Let’s all take a collective moment to reflect on how much time we’ve saved through virtual meetings and communications.

Referral sources that always show up for you

I know one just came to your head.

Referral sources keep the home care world turning. When your digital marketing spend is up for the month, you can always rely on your referral sources to come through from a rehab, senior living community, local hospice, or another entity to send a name and number your way.

Let’s give a round of applause to the referral sources and community partners that showed up for you this year! 👏

The government continues to take notice of home care

Although government (federal and state) regulations may pose a challenge to home care agencies at one point in time or another, they serve to keep clients and caregivers safe.

With this continued attention and spotlighting of home care as an industry, it’s helped to:

  • Position aging in place and community-based services as a viable option for families
  • Promote home care and give it the visibility it needs
  • Align priorities that help reduce readmission rates and improve outcomes

No silver bullet will magically solve our industry’s problems. But, let’s give them a nod of gratitude this holiday season for their continued work to improve this space.

The power of delegation

Have you delegated an important task to someone else on your admin team? I know it’s hard to let go of something you are skilled at and take pride in. It’s also an equally beautiful process to pass the baton over to someone you trust, who is capable.

Not familiar with the Eisenhower Matrix? Check out this system of working that will give you so much time back in your week, prioritizing more immediately impactful tasks.
