Senate Passes Bill to Delay EVV Implementation

The U.S. Senate just passed the bill introduced and already passed through the House of Representatives that would delay the implementation of the EVV mandate. Currently, the EVV mandate’s implementation date is supposed to be January 1, 2019. Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) was part of the December 2016 CURES Act that affected many different areas of healthcare.

President Donald Trump has 10 days to sign the bill for it to become law. Once signed, the new implementation date will be January 1, 2020 for personal care services. Additionally, as a part of the existing Act legislation, states have an additional one-year exemption if they show that they have attempted in good faith to implement EVV throughout the state. In this case, a one-year exemption would push the allowable implementation date to January 1, 2021.
